The Czech Republic and Switzerland signed the CMS Memorandum of Understanding on the Conservation of Migratory Birds of Prey in Africa and Eurasia (Raptors MoU) at the 11th Conference of Parties to CMS (COP11) in Quito, Ecuador. This brings the total number of Signatories to 48.

New Signatories to MOUs and Partnership Agreements Signed

The Coordinating Unit of the CMS Raptors MOU is pleased to announce that the Saker Falcon Falco cherrug Global Action Plan (SakerGAP) has been published and is freely available online at the CMS 11th Conference of the Parties website.

International Vulture Awareness Day (IVAD) 2014 offers a unique opportunity for the Coordinating Unit of the CMS Raptors MoU to celebrate its collaboration with the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB – BirdLife Bulgaria) to develop a ‘Flyway Action Plan (FAP) for the Conservation of the Balkan and Central Asian Populations of the Egyptian Vulture (Neophron percnopterus)’.

A new smartphone application (App) to record raptor sightings throughout Africa is launched today. Developed by Habitat Info,in collaboration with the CMS Raptors MoU, this user-friendly, free-of-charge application enables birdwatchers, naturalists and members of the public to capture information offline on their Android phones and tablets anywhere.

Today, the CMS Raptors MoU Coordinating Unit celebrates World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) jointly with Bird Conservation Georgia, the leading nature conservation organization in the country, through its Batumi Raptor Count (BRC) programme located at the city of Batumi in Georgia.

The Coordinating Unit of the Raptors MoU is pleased to announce the successful completion of a Fieldwork Capacity Building Project to support the conservation of migratory Egyptian Vultures of the Balkan Region on their wintering grounds in Ethiopia, Sudan and Chad. The Fieldwork Capacity Building Project was focused on training a small number of local African ornithologists to undertake surveys of Egyptian Vultures in their own countries.

The Plan of Action to Address Bird Trapping along the Mediterranean Coasts of Egypt and Libya went public today together with the launch of the freshly-developed website for the International Task Force, established to ensure its effective implementation. The Plan of Action (PoA) was developed in advance of the coordination meeting on bird trapping in Egypt and Libya, convened by the UNEP/AEWA Secretariat on 29 November 2013 at the UN Campus in Bonn, Germany, where it was revised.

The second draft of the Saker Falcon Global Action Plan (SakerGAP) was launched for public consultation on World Wildlife Day on 3 March 2014. Comments on the SakerGAP should be submitted by 30 April 2014.
